In 1999 Moccasin Walk, a partnership with Interfaith Hospitality Network was begus, to bring several homeless families to live in our church for one week each quarter of the year. In fall 2001, Shepherd of the Hills sponsored a Mission Fair, with various workshops and speakers addressing local and global mission concerns. Displays also heightened our awareness of mission and outreach opportunities locally and worldwide. Our concern for homelessness also was demonstrated by the fall 2002 Juarez trip. A number of church members traveled to Juarez, Mexico, to build a small home for a family of four through the Casa por Christo program. Mission and Outreach isn't just a corporate function at Shepherd of the Hills. It involves the work and dedication of the Deacons, through their hands-on and financial grants; the efforts of Presbyterian Women, who have fund raisers, to support local and global projects; and individuals committed to making a difference and willing to take a chance to meet a need.
Editors Note: This article is intended only as a thumbnail sketch of mission activities in our church. So many groups and individual members conduct ministry and mission work on a daily basis, but space limitations in this booklet prohibit appropriate coverage of these efforts. In assembling the materials and history information for this booklet, it has been made clear that our many and varied continuous mission activities are truly a core value of our church, and are a spiritual cornerstone of our collective ministry. |
