Journeys Well Taken
The XYZ Group
(Extra Years of Zip)

An important part of congregational life for seniors at Shepherd of the Hills, and others, has been a succession of group travel programs, both domestic and overseas, that have provided many enriching experiences in Christian fellowship and discovery.

The first of our out-of-state journeys was the July visit, by bus, to the South Dakota "Passion Play" in 1990, with Hal and Kirby Davis as leaders and 26 participants going along. This was followed by another bus trip to New Mexico in July 1991, and one to Utah in May 1992. A train trip to Wyoming was the excursion in 1993.

The 1994 journey to the Grand Canyon was the first trip led by John and Vanjie Bratt. The highlight of that experience was a Sunday morning worship service on the rim of the canyon, with the awe-inspiring beauty of God's creation as a colorful backdrop for our prayers and songs. Some 34 persons were a part of that trip.

Branson, Missouri - the Pop Music Capitol of the nation - was our destination two years in a row, 1995 and '96. In addition to attending a variety of musical shows and eating well (too well), we also enjoyed the sight and sounds of the pre-Christmas season in 1996, with no less that 46 persons making up our travel group.
