The Ministries of Parish Associates

In recent years, Shepherd of the Hills has added a number of retired or semi-retired Presbyterian clergy to it pastoral staff, in many cases on a part-time basis.

During the 11 years of Alan Landes' pastorate, the Rev. Hal Davis, formerly on the staff of Westminister Church and pastor of First church of Golden, served for several years. During his tenure, the XYZ group was established as an on-going program for church seniors. Upon the departure of the Rev. Mike Carrier as associate pastor to become pastor of Calvary church of Denver, late in 1993, the Rev. John Bratt, retired pastor of Lakewood First church, was added to the staff, and the Kerygma program of adult Bible study was introduced.

In subsequent years, the Rev. Will Jackson served for a time in an interim associate pastor position, followed by the Rev. Suzanne Linsdsey, a recent graduate of Louisville Theological Seminary. In later years, the Rev. Ken Smith, formerly pastor of Northglen and Granby churches, also was added to the pastoral staff. Upon his resignation, during the two-year interim pastorate of the Rev. Les Avery, retired pastor of St. James church in Littleton, the Rev. Pat Jordan, retired pastor of the Idaho Springs church, also was added to the staff. Pat had served as associate pastor many years earlier during the long tenure of the Rev. Malcolm Sweet, founding pastor of the congregation. John Bratt, having served with the Rev. Ron Holmes, resigned in late 2002, at which time the Rev. Julia Leeth of California became associate pastor.

Serving in a "back up" role in pastoral care, worship leadership and adult education, these pastors have, in recent years, supplemented the pastoral leadership of Shepherd of the Hills' senior ministers.
