Reflections . . .

Dear Friends in Christ:

God is good. One of his good gifts to us is placing us in communities of faith and love, where we share life together in Christ, with all its joys, challenges, and fulfillments. Certainly that is true of the life of Shepherd of the Hills, and we feel blessed and privileged to have been able to share in that. It was time rich in the ongoing sense of God's presence and guidance, even in the transitions that occurred during the period. The continued faithfulness of the Shepherd of the Hills saints was a delight to share-thank y'all!

The transitions included Alan Landes moving on to the mission field that is California, and Les Avery coming aboard as interim minister. Two men, both with great gifts and abundant energy, yet with vastly different styles of ministry and leadership. And the church flourished with both styles - a tribute to the commitment and continuity of the congregation. It was as powerful testimony to God's ongoing work in his people. Even as staff members come and go (which we do!), God is faithful and God's people remain strong.    Even as I recall with appreciation involvements and good times together such as with Stephen Ministry, Deacons, New Member classes, Spiritual Gifts groups, and much more, what stands out most are fond memories of the warmth and fine spirit of the congregation. We always felt welcomed and encouraged,
and for that we are indeed grateful. Being with y'all was truly a lift to our spirits and a reminder of the power of Christ's love embodied in a people.

I am also encouraged and heartened by Shepherd of the Hill's commitment to being "A Light on the Hill," with real impact on the community around. It was joyful to see the deep levels of dedication through such ministries as Habitat for Humanity, Jeffco Action Center, Moccasin Walk, and many others - real reminders of Jesus' love reaching out to touch others in time of need.

Even as I write this from halfway around the world (New Zealand), I'm aware of how strong are the bonds of love that link us with each other and with the Christ who holds us together always in his love. May his grace continue to make you strong -and joyous!

Thank y'all for your presence in our lives.
