How Then Shall We Live? The Minor Prophets
Ongoing Bible Study, 9 a.m., Sweet Chapel
Facilitator: Joy Dickerhoof

God made known both Himself and His will as He spoke to the prophets and through them to the people of God. It is through their teaching that God brought the nation of Israel and individuals back to Himself. The words of the prophets were not written down just for Israel but for all those who choose to be counted among the people of God. Scripture speaks just as clearly today as it did in the past.

You’re welcome to join this ongoing Bible study at any time as it travels through the Minor Prophets.

“Respectable Sins: Are There Any?”
February 21 - April 11
Facilitators:   Alicia Zika and Mary Nibbe

Have we become so preoccupied with the major sins of our society that we overlook our own more subtle sins? Perhaps we have developed a sliding scale of measurement. Sins listed at one end we are sure don't affect us. Those at the other end?

Using an insightful book by best-selling author Jerry Bridges, the class will determine if, indeed, we do have a list of “acceptable” sins. Then we will explore how to draw on God's enabling power to confront and overcome our own list of sins.

New Forums
The new forums will begin January 17 at 9 a.m., in Charter Hall following a brief overview on January 10. Here’s the schedule:

January 17 through February 14 – An all-church small group discussion on the sermon series by Ron Holmes using the book Heaven by Randy Alcorn.

February 21 & 28 – Understanding Grief - a discussion facilitated by Mary Kay Stanhope.

March 7 & 14 – “Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: One Pastor’s Perspective” presented by Dr. Jim Ryan, executive director, Colorado Council of Churches.

March 21 – “Do We Need a Grief Support Group at Shepherd of the Hills? This is a follow-up discussion with Mary Kay Stanhope to share needs and ideas.

March 28 – An all-church time of sharing with the Missional Study guide team. What’s next for Shepherd of the Hills?

April 11 - Health Care 2010, what will it mean for you?  Facilitated by Dr. Robert Williams at the 9:00 Forum on Sunday, , in Charter Hall.

Saturday April 17 - Free workshop on UNDERSTANDING SERIOUS MENTAL ILLNESS is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; lunch with free will offering, child care available.  As Christians we need to be sensitive to the way that serious mental illness causes suffering in individuals, families and coworkers.  Join us in a discussion of the basic concepts of serious mental illness, led by mental health professionals from Jefferson Center for Mental Health.  To register, call the church office, 303-238-2482.

April  25  -  Religious cults and how to escape. Guest speaker Brenda Lee, author of Out of the Cocoon, will share her story about escaping the grasp of a religious cult. Look for future details on this special event.

May 2 -- Missional Study update. The guide team will bring us up-to-date on this ongoing study.
