ANNOUNCEMENTS for May 4, 2008

WELCOME TO ALL who worship with us today. We are honored and blessed to worship with you. Our earnest prayer is that all will feel welcomed and strengthened in our worship today and that the worship and praise we offer is a delight to God. Remember, the first question to ask about worship is not, “What did I get out of worship today?” but, “What did God get out of my worship?”

TODAY’S FLOWERS ARE GIVEN by John, Amy, J.T., Rob and Molly Kendall in memory of Sandra Maryn, and Tryon and Catharine Kendall.

COFFEE FELLOWSHIP: You’re invited…to spend a moment after worship fellowshiping with your brothers and sisters in Christ! Charter Hall is set up for worshipers to gather together for good conversation over a cup of coffee. Specialty drinks are available at the Coffee Bar (first time visitors, don’t forget the red card for your free drink!) and regular coffee is available near the entrance to Charter Hall. Take a moment, get to know one another better, introduce yourself to someone you don’t know, and enjoy the fellowship we share in Jesus Christ!

CHANCEL ELDERS: At the conclusion of the worship service, two elders will be available at the front of the sanctuary to answer questions you might have about our church or faith, or to pray with you. Our pastors will also be available following a time of greeting at the doors.

COMMUNION SUNDAY IS TODAY; The nonperishable foods collected will go to the Jeffco Action Center and Gemini Shelter in Lakewood. Thank you for your generosity in answering God’s call to serve others.

CONTINUING COMPASSION: Packets for child sponsorships through Compassion International are available at the Welcome Center. Please follow the directions given for taking a packet and considering sponsorship. Pledge cards for building a school in Afghanistan through the Central Asia Institute are also available. Checks for Central Asia Institute are to be made out to “SOTH – CAI”

SUPPORT OUR YOUTH! BID ON ITEMS IN OUR AUCTION: You probably noticed the folders we’ve set up for our Silent Auction. All funds raised go towards youth missions, retreats and summer trips. So bid high and support our middle school and high schoolers. The auction ends today.

MEN”S WORK PARTY: Stop by the table in the Narthex today and sign up to help with painting, landscape and other projects as they are presented. We’ll start the first Saturday in May and work throughout May, then during the summer as needed. Questions check with Eric Saenger and Ken Hawkins.

PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN: All women of the church are encouraged to attend the Presbyterian Women’s meeting in the Library on Tuesday May 6, 2008 at 9:00 a.m.

HAPPY BOOKERS will meet Monday, May 12 at 7:15 p.m. at the home of Esther Bond, 3253 N 32nd St, Wheat Ridge. She will review the book Fire in the Blood, by Irene Nemirovsky. Please call to confirm.

XYZ will meet Friday, May 16, for a potluck at noon. Please bring a food dish to share and your own table ware.  Following lunch, we will visit Iris4U Gardens in Denver. The 2 1/2 acre site has 1,000 different varieties and about 100,000 plants.

Spring Work Day at Highlands CAMP: Saturday, May 17, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Join us as we get camp ready for summer! Projects will include opening and cleaning cabins, getting the new Archery Range ready to go, preparing the craft shack and Nurses' Cabin, and outdoor projects as weather permits. Bring a pair of work gloves and clothing appropriate for the weather. Sack lunches will be provided by Highlands. Call or email Laura 303-747-2888 or laura@highlandscamp.org) to let us know you are coming!!

COLFAX MARATHON IS MAY 18: Once again this year we will be conducting our own “marathon to church” day in conjunction with the Colfax Marathon. Colfax Avenue will be closed to crossing traffic on that Sunday morning. However, a new route for the marathon this year will leave Simms Street open—one lane northbound and both southbound lanes.  Access to Robb Street and the church parking lot still will be only from 20th Avenue.  Persons living north of Colfax should not be affected. Whatever it takes, wear your running shoes and join us for worship that morning!

MEMORIAL SUNDAY OF REMEMBRANCE IS MAY 25: Each year our congregation remembers and celebrates the lives and faith of those who have died in the previous year. You are invited to contact the church office, no later than noon Thursday, May 22, to add any names of loved ones and friends to those being remembered in our worship service that day.

VBS: Did you notice our VBS giving tree in the Narthex? We’re doing something different this year in preparation for Rainforest Adventure VBS! On the giving tree you’ll find tags for craft and supply items needed this year. Please check the tags, see what you might have at home and bring it in to make our program this a huge success! More info on registration will follow in the coming weeks. Contact Julie at 303-238-2482 with questions.

STEPHEN MINISTRY is now taking applications for a training class beginning mid-July. Applications can be found in the information display as you enter or exit the church. Questions? Call Mona Baxley.

PILLOW HUGS: Please visit the “Pillow Hugs” table in the Narthex today. Committee members will be there to show you the latest “Pillow Hugs” and a great new way to attach the bands. Since February 13, 163 pillows have been distributed. Pre cut fabric will be available for you to try. Your donations to buy fabric and pillows are appreciated. Make check payable to SOTH with “Pillow Hugs” in the memo line.
