What is the Workshop Rotation?
The children of Shepherd of the Hills enjoy a creative and varied
approach to learning. The Workshop Rotation Model is based on the idea that
people learn in different ways. We understand that children enjoy being
challenged and creatively stimulated.
During a
five-week period, we study one topic in five different settings. All of the
workshops focus on a Bible
lesson. Each class incorporates discussion of the topic and the children
practice memory verses. They then expand on the theme through visual, verbal,
logical and kinesthetic experiences in group and personal settings. By the end
of the five weeks, the lesson has been repeated through a variety of methods
that are fun and exciting.
The Workshops
The Temple of Learning
Purpose: To put God’s word in our hearts and minds. Just like in the Bible, our
temple is the center of learning. In this workshop, the strong focus is on the
message. An interactive lesson is presented. The children take part in large and
small group activities that include learning games and research using the
resources of the Children’s Library.
Creative Design
Purpose: To explore the talents God has given us and to
create reminders and symbols of our faith and the beautiful world around
us. God made a wonderful place for His children to enjoy and explore. His art is
all around us. In this workshop, we use many types of artistic techniques to
create a variety of projects. Cooking, science, and nature are occasionally
added to this fun workshop experience.
Drama
Purpose: To experience the stories and
lessons of the Bible firsthand. In a dramatic setting, the children experience
the emotions and details of the stories. They gain a better understanding of
life in Bible times. They also use modern settings to help them apply the
lessons learned. Plays, puppets, readings, poetry, flannel board, and black
light dramas are all used to make the Bible come alive. Sometimes the children
create their own scripts based on scripture and experiment with creative acting
and improvisation.
The SOTH Theatre
Purpose: To reinforce the Bible theme or story through a movie and follow-up
discussion, game, or activity. The children learn from a quality,
Christian-theme movie while sitting in real, old-time theatre seats and enjoying
a bag of popcorn. Seeing the Bible on the big screen is always a favorite.
Computer Lab
Purpose: To take advantage of this learning tool to reinforce Bible learning, we
use a variety of wonderful Christian software now available for all ages. The
experience includes quizzes, research, games, art, creative writing, Bible
memory, Bible facts, storytelling, and Holy Land tours, to name just a few.

Computer Lab Support Coordinator – Load and prepare programs for
kids to use on Sunday.
Computer knowledge helpful but not required. Anytime during the week
that fits your schedule (not a Sunday morning job).
|
| Preschool Teacher – Be part of an energetic team. Requires
rotating Sunday mornings 9-10:15 a.m., plus some planning sessions. |
| Children’s Library Manager – Maintain computer list of books
and videos, reshelve returned resources, enter new materials, etc. |
|
Decorating Support – This opportunity defies
description: every 5 weeks presents unknown options for creativity
and creation! If you have free time on weekdays (the schedule can
vary as much as the projects) and a willingness to try just about
anything, this may be the perfect ministry for you! |
Bible Buck Store
We have our Bible Buck Store on the last Sunday of every month. The store is a
favorite time when the children are rewarded Bible Bucks for Bible learning,
attendance, bringing their Bibles, and other positive things they can do. The
store is an opportunity to buy Christmas gifts for others, help with Mission
projects, and other acts of service beyond just buying toys for themselves.

Nursery
Nursery is available for infants and toddlers every
Sunday morning. This fall our nursery will be open
beginning at 8:30 a.m. through the 10 a.m. worship
hour. Please be sure to pick up your child no later
than 11:30 a.m.
We are happy to have
Sarah Thompson as our
nursery caregiver. Sarah has been involved in our
nursery for the last five years.
We want to offer the best care possible for the
children. We require a background check, First Aid
certification, and the presence of other adults
nearby to assure the safety of your children. We
sanitize the toys and room regularly and ask that
you do not bring ill children to the nursery.
Please sign your child in when you drop him or her
off, and write down any vital information for the
care of your child. |
Visit
the Childrens
Library

We
have books, videos, reference books for teachers and parents, and adult books on
parenting and various Christian topics. The library is located in the Temple
Room on the lower level, the first door on the left past the Christian Education
desk.
Why
buy books when you can check them out right here? We are looking for someone to
come in once a month to maintain records and keep things organized. If you can
help out, let Rosalie know. Donations to purchase library materials are always
welcome.
