We realize coming to a new church can be a bit uncomfortable, and we hope the following question and answer section will answer some of your questions.

Parking is provided at two locations. There is a large parking lot southeast of the church and a smaller lot adjacent to the east side. Both locations provide handicapped parking. Also, there is a golf cart located on the east side of the larger parking lot, facing Street. The golf cart will take you to the front door and return you to your vehicle following the worship service.

Yes. Should you park in the smaller parking lot, you may access the elevator to the second floor through the doors on the east side of the building. It’s the entrance to the Centus Counseling Center and signage will direct you to the elevator.

If you park in the larger lot, there are both handicapped parking spaces and the golf cart rides described above. We have members who use wheelchairs, walkers, oxygen, and canes and access to the church is not a problem.

If you plan to attend church, or a church event, and are concerned about accessibility, contact the church office (Monday through Friday) at 303-238-2482 and we can make sure someone will be available to meet the handicapped person when they arrive at church so they can determine the best way to access the building.

It doesn’t matter what you wear. Some people wear suits or dresses; others come in casual slacks, jeans or shorts. You are welcome regardless of what you decide to wear.

The worship services are held in the sanctuary. The main doors are on the southeast side of the church. When you enter, you will be greeted and, as you enter the sanctuary, you will be given a bulletin showing the order of the service.

Our pastors welcome everyone to sit near the front, but you may sit anywhere. The pastors are usually seated in the front pew on the left side, but other than that, all spaces are available.

Yes. During the worship service, there is a children’s message during which children, who so desire, come to the front of the sanctuary. Following the children’s message, the children are usually released to go to Sunday school.

However, we encourage children who wish to attend the regular service to do so. Activity bags are located at the south door to the sanctuary. This provides little ones a diversion.

A few weeks a year, particularly in the summer, there is no Sunday school. If there is no Sunday school, children may go to the playground for supervised play activities during the worship service.

We also have a nursery for babies. The nursery is located on the lower level. When you arrive at church, let a greeter at the front door know you are trying to find the nursery and they will find someone to give you an assist.

The order of service will be found in the bulletin you are given as you enter the sanctuary. The service will include prayer, the children’s message, music, a sermon, greeting one another, an offering and a benediction. Communion is the first Sunday of each month. Corporate prayers and scripture will be printed in the bulletin and also will appear on the big screen at the front of the sanctuary. The lyrics of songs also will be on the big screen. Generally we rise for prayers and songs. There is no kneeling.

Our music program includes a chancel choir, a children’s choir, a praise team, praise band, and a handbell choir. The music played during worship is blended and incorporates both old hymns and new praise songs.

No. The offering part of the service is our way of giving back to God for the many blessings we have received, but there is no obligation to make a contribution.

The worship service usually lasts 60-75 minutes. Following worship, you are invited to join us in Charter Hall (to the left of the sanctuary) for coffee fellowship. Coffee, tea, juice, fruit, and baked goods are provided. A freewill offering basket is located on the coffee fellowship table, but, as a visitor, you are not expected to make a contribution.

The sacrament of communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of each month. Shepherd of the Hills is an inclusive church. If you are a believer, you are welcome to participate.

We celebrate communion in two ways. The first is through distribution, where elders and deacons pass the bread and grape juice down the rows. The second way is through intinction, where members come to the front of the church, take a piece of bread and dip it in the cup (grape juice). Gluten free bread is provided for those who are gluten intolerant.
