About the event

This presentation will explore current stressors within and beyond the church. It will identify how stress, anxiety, and defense mechanisms impact disagreements of all kinds. This will include underlying causes of conflict, different styles for seeking to resolve conflict, and various types of resolution. It will also delve into unique dimensions of conflict management for consideration in faith communities. These arenas include the organizational life cycle stage of the congregation, spiritual maturity, leadership style, and the particular congregational culture.

Paul A. Bretz, D.Min., LCSW, MHSA, is passionate about high quality, spiritually integrated behavioral healthcare. He serves as Chief Executive Officer of Centus Counseling, Consulting & Education and as a Behavioral Health Surveyor for The Joint Commission whose mission is to continuously improve healthcare. His professional experience includes clinical and leadership roles in community mental health centers, church based counseling centers and congregations. Paul is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and an ordained Minister in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). He is an active participant in the life and ministry of Belong Church in Denver.
