Frequently asked questions
Being Presbyterian means belonging to a Christian tradition that emphasizes faith, grace, and shared leadership. The word "Presbyterian" comes from the Greek presbyteros, meaning elder, which reflects our form of church government.
A Church Led by Elders
Rather than being led by a single person, Presbyterian congregations are governed by a group of elected elders, both ministers and laypeople. These elders serve on the session (local church leadership) and work alongside regional governing bodies called presbyteries, synods, and the General Assembly to make decisions in a connectional and democratic way.
Rooted in Reformed Theology
Presbyterians are part of the Reformed tradition, which emphasizes:
The Sovereignty of God – God is in control of all things.
Salvation by Grace – We are saved by God's grace, not by our own efforts.
The Authority of Scripture – The Bible is the foundation of faith and practice.
Faith in Action – Our faith calls us to serve others and seek justice in the world.

Presbyterians value education and thoughtful faith. Our church offers Bible studies and small groups, to help members grow spiritually.

Our core beliefs align with the PCUSA. We believe in the triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We trust in Jesus Christ, who was fully human and fully God, and in the Holy Spirit, who renews life. We believe in salvation by grace and the authority of Scripture. Our faith calls us to serve others and seek justice in the world.
