Does God Have a Sense of Humor?

Friends,

Do you think God has a sense of humor? I had a Jewish friend who used to say that we [humans] make plans and God laughs.

I believe God longs to have a relationship with us and made a way for us to be with Him for eternity (John 3:16). So, I can’t imagine that if we, His most valuable creation, have wide varieties of humor that range through individual personalities, that the God of the universe, who created us in His image, does not have one.

How about Sarah’s laughter when she found out that she would have a child at the age of 95? How about Balaam’s talking donkey in the book of Numbers? Or the giant fish that swallowed Jonah when he was thrown into the sea and then “vomited” him up three days later? How about the 2nd plague in Exodus when frogs came up on the land of Egypt and the Lord did as Moses requested and the frogs died in the houses, the courtyards, and the fields and the land stank?

The Bible is filled with stories that demonstrate God’s sense of humor. Perhaps laughter should become part of your Sabbath practice!

With laughter and love,

Pastor Heather
