Kids Take Over Worship

In an exciting new initiative to celebrate the energy, creativity, and faith of our youngest members, Shepherd of the Hills will be turning the entire service over to the kids. That’s right—our children will be taking the reins for every part of worship. From greeting at the door to leading prayers, reading scripture, and even guiding the sermon, this marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the life of our church.
Ada and Hudson will welcome you at the door with your choice of a high five or fist bump. Once inside, you’ll receive your personal worship bag—complete with crayons and coloring books—from Vivian or Nash.
In the sanctuary, you may choose between our new wiggle-friendly seating section or the pews, now thoughtfully upgraded with pre-installed fidgets.
Everyone is especially looking forward to sermons by Raven, who has promised to include skipping down the aisles in every message. Ushers George and Camille will assist with the offering—simply toss your gift into the basket, basketball-style (bank shots encouraged).
Our new worship leader, Oliver, is excited to introduce musical chairs during the hymns, followed by a ring-around-the-rosie-style dance around the sanctuary. All music will be performed on kazoos by Anthony.
Meanwhile, our liturgists, Rowan and Zayn, have simplified the scripture readings by removing all words longer than six letters, making them more accessible (and considerably shorter).
In the tech booth, Breck and Theo will be running slides and sound, promising increased dramatic flair, surprise transitions, and at least one moment of completely unexpected silence.
We are confident this new direction will bring fresh energy, deeper engagement, and a renewed sense of joy to our worship life. Congregants are encouraged to come prepared to participate, stay flexible, and perhaps stretch beforehand.
This change will be implemented beginning April 1. Happy April Fool's Day!
