This February, our choir is honoring Black history through music that has inspired generations. We’ll be singing “This Little Light of Mine” and “Lift Every Voice and Sing”.

About the Songs:

·         “This Little Light of Mine” – The song’s origins are not definitely known, but it is believed to have been influenced by the biblical passage about a lamp under a bushel. It was first sing in the 1920s and later adapted by activists during the civil rights movement.

·         “Lift Every Voice and Sing” – Often called the “Black National Anthem,” this hymn written by James Johnson celebrates the enduring spirit, resilience, and faith of Black communities. It has been sung across generations as an expression of hope, unity, and shared heritage.

As we lift our voices together, we acknowledge the labor, creativity, and legacy of Black composers, and celebrate the contributions they have made to the life of the church.
