The Advent Journey

“Light the Advent Candle one, now the waiting has begun,” is the first line of a favorite Advent Song.  The waiting has indeed begun, and we are on our way, beginning the journey to the manger in Bethlehem.  I don’t know about you, but this Advent journey has a different feel to me.  I find myself longing for peace, seeking hope in a world that feels hard and fierce, and wanting joy to burst through the fear that is encountered almost daily now.  Our worship series, “What do you Fear?: Insisting on Hope this Advent” by A Sanctified Art encourages us to name those fears honestly and seek hope and peace in the midst of our chaos.  If you think about it Mary and Joseph’s journey looked a bit like today.  A world in turmoil without peace, political resistance, fearful hearts of what would be next.  Enter in a God then and now, who stilled the storm, quieted hearts and broke through the chaos to enter into a world that was loud and give us courage and hope.  I encourage you this season to take some time to slow down, to wait, to seek a bit of quiet and peace in the middle of busy days.  Press pause and let God break through as we wait for God’s gift, the greatest gift, Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace to come once again!

Advent Blessings,
